Hanging Out with the Senior Maggies
By Billy Foote Craig (Under 10s)
Last Saturday, the day before ANZAC day, I was lucky enough to hang out with the Senior Maggies – they were warming up, getting ready to play Redlands.
After Dad dropped me off, one of the captains, Mark, showed me into the dressing room where I met all the players - they were all very big and friendly.
Before kick-off, I hung around with the guys while they warmed up. Mark gave me some kicking and marking tips which was really good. Mark’s a really good player and my Dad reckons he really knows what he’s talking about.
I then got to run out onto the field with the team. I ran out first and they followed me. We got a big cheer from the crowd, which was pretty funny.
Before kick-off, we had the ANZAC ceremony. We all stood in a line and listened to The Last Post. We did this to remember and thank all the people who have fought in wars to keep Australia safe.
I then got to hang out with Mark on the player’s bench while we watched the game. It was great fun. I hope one day that I’m good enough to play for the Senior Maggies.
I also hope that anyone else who gets the chance to hang out with the Senior Maggies will get out there and have a fun too.
