The Under 17’s kicked off the day, but were unable to come away with a win, as the Huntly boys handled the slippery conditions better. The boys would have been disappointed with their effort and will be out to prove they are better team than that as they go up against Elmore this week in Round 5. Better players last week were: J. Collinson, J. Robertson, M. Kent, M. Byrnes, M. Wright, C. Jones.
The 2’s had their 2nd win in a row. It was a hard fought win, with the game evenly poised all day. We had a few new faces in the team – Butters, Pig and Darren— with each of them showing some form and with Spikka controlling the forward line (kicking 4 goals) the team had a good balance. In previous weeks, the team has started off slowly, as if waiting to see how the other team performs, but on Saturday they took the game on, right from the start and kept adding to the scoreboard each quarter. A highlight was a great individual goal by Luke Brittain, who attacked the ball on the boundary and steered the ball through the big sticks. The boys' teamwork is starting to improve, just needing to add a bit more talk on the ground to grab a few more wins. Better players were: Butters (great job at centre half fwd), Bushy (started on the pine but really influenced the game when he got on), Darren (played a consistent 4 quarters), Tim (played hard and tough across the centreline), Pig (really showed some good defence and attack on the Back Flank), & Thorno (as usually played a solid game).
Well the Seniors had the game won everywhere except on the scoreboard. While they were deeply disappointed with the result, there were a lot of positive’s to come out of it (as pointed out by Brent after the game). They controlled the game for 3 quarters, but couldn’t put scoreboard pressure on the opposition and to Huntly’s credit they fought the game right out and were in front at the right time. So the challenge is now on for the boys to bounce back against the Bloods today. They know they are getting the ball into the forward line a good percentage of the game, and if they continue to do so, the results are sure to come. Better players against Huntly were: Wrighty (Dave), Mellow, Bravo, Scotty, Griffo and Sean Bowles.
