Next week the Western Magpies will begin conducting a Centre of Excellence program at the club which is designed to fast track the development of a range of players over a 15 week period. The program was conducted as a pilot at Morningside in 2009 and has been extended to include the Western Magpies in 2010. The COE will be operated by Senior Magpie and former St Kilda rookie Ed McDonnell.
The first session will take place on Wednesday May 5 prior to Senior training from 5.30pm to 6.10pm and then the squad will join the Western Magpies for senior training. The squad of 15 to 18 players selected by the Western Magpies and AFL QLD will consist of Senior listed players requiring extra skill development, supplimentary listed players, some WMAFC U/18's and some Sherwood JFC U/16's.

The main focus of the Centre of Excellence will be on kicking technique, handball technique, marking technique and clean ball handling and will the provide extra 1 on 1 tutoring which is difficult to impliment as a part of normal training. Players invited to attend will recieve invitation letters over the next couple of days.
The Western Magpies will be holding an information session to outline ho the Centre of Excellence will work along with other issues in regard to the supplementary list, 23rd QAFL Senior player, Brisbane Lions top up selection and expectations. The date and time for this session will be issued through U/18 and U/16 Coaches.
