In another beautiful day for footy, the Lismore Swans hosted Coolangatta for the first time and produced another strong performance toppling the unbeathen Coolangatta Blues by 67 points at Mortimor Oval.
The Swans made it clear they were out to play footy kicking the opening goal within seconds to hit the front and the Swans never let the lead slip from there on. The Swans put enormous pressure on the Coolangatta side however the Blues made sure the Swans new they were up for a game. The Swans took a 13 point lead into the first break.
The second quarter was much the same however a few missed opportunities by both sides kept the game within reach although the Swans kept Coolangatta goalles for the term to take a 28 point lead into half time.
The Swans blew many opportunities infront of goal in the third while Cooly pegged back a few to give them a chance, a couple of quick late goals by the Swans assisted them to a comfortable 33 point lead into the final break.
To Coolangatta's credit they picked up the intensity early in the final quarter to give themselves a chance however the Swans defence worked tirelessly all day to limit the oppositions opportunities at goal. Some strong leads from key forwards Wesley Seewald and Dean Webb made it tough for the Blues backline as the Swans finished the game with a flurry of goals in the final 10 minutes to runaway with a big win in the end topping off another strong performance. To put the icing on the cake Eddie Burton took an absolute screamer proving he is just as good in the air as he is on the ground The Swans kicked 15.20-110 to Coolangatta 6.7-43.
The win was soured by a knee injury to exciting young forward Jake Ryan.
Best on the day were Eddie Burton, Daniel Moloney, Shaun Wadwell, Rhys Lavery, Josh Mapstone and Dean Webb.
Goal kickers, 5 to Wesley Seewald, 3 to Daniel Moloney, 2 each to Eddie Burton, Darren Moncrief and Dean Webb, while Tim Piper kicked 1.
In the other game on Thursday night the Nimbin/Swans B side worked hard all day producing some great passages and some brilliant tackles however lacked accountablity and allowed Byron to kick several easy uncontested goals. Best for the side were Joshua Davis, Tim Piper, Tom Waters, and Jarrod Kelly.
Goal kickers were Jarrod Kelly and Joshua Davis with 2 each, while singles went to David Woon and Roly Barrett.
Both sides have a weeks rest before the Swans take on Ballina at Fripp Oval on the 15th of May while Nimbin/Swans B side host Coolangatta at the Nimbin Showgrounds.
