IGA SUPERMARKETS JOIN THE AFL PUSH IN WESTERN SYDNEY
Australia’s fastest growing network of supermarkets, IGA, has given the AFL’s push in Western Sydney a boost with its sponsorship of feeder club, The Penrith Australian Football Club – Penrith Rams.
IGA’s newly launched premium private label range, IGA Signature, will become a major corporate sponsor from 2010 of the Penrith Rams, which has a network of 1,000 registered players and will be the key feeder club to the new Greater Western Sydney AFL team - joining the national competition in 2012.
IGA Signature will be involved in the club at every level with signage at the Rams’ homeground – Grey Gums Oval in Cranebrook – as well as clothing on and off the field for players and officials.
Ms Pennie Cruickshank of IGA Signature, said “We feel a great affinity with the AFL’s push into western Sydney as this is the heartland of IGA Stores in NSW, so we can connect more with our customers and the IGA Signature range of products.
“We are delighted to associate IGA Signature with a fast growing, dynamic sport which has such a strong family involvement”, he added.
Mr Kevin Tate of the Penrith Rams, said “We are delighted that Australia’s largest network of supermarkets has committed to building the presence of AFL in Western Sydney with our family club. We look forward to a long association with IGA Signature”.
IGA Signature is easily identifiable in stores by its ‘Signature’ metallic blue band across the range of over 500 products exclusive to IGA supermarkets. It was the first private label range to roll out with the Daily Intake information on all food packs and has recipe hints and ideas to help families get more from their IGA shopping experience.
In addition to this sponsorship, 2 cents from each IGA Signature product sold is directed towards the IGA stores’ successful Community Chest charity program, which has achieved widespread community support and raised $42 million in the last seven years.
