With 21 players the Noosa Div 3 boys ran out with some confidence onto a wet Maroochy oval at 10:00am. Having played the last couple of games with questionable numbers the feeling in the rooms prior was great. The home team grabbed the first couple of goals before Noosa got into the game with Josh Birse & Adam Davidson leading the way out of the middle after some good ruck work from Tim Seccombe, Captain Kris Bamback snapped the first goal for the Tigers.
After the first break Maroochy again looked set to run away with the game when the Tigers decided it was time to join in the fun of another wet game. Goals came from the dashing back pocket know as the Boob Man “Stephen Senn” and Under 18 player Adam Murrihy as the Tigers closed the gap quickly.
Brett Gavin in his first (Div 3) game was great down back laying around 20 tackles in the first half and colleting as many possessions. The boys enjoyed the sugar fix of snakes at half time after a lesson in how life & footy are similar from the coach.
An all out attempt to take the game after the long break looked good early, the big man Toby Jackson went into the ruck, skipper Bamback, VC Davidson joined him in the middle and things turned the Tigers way with a couple of quick goals. The game with now only a few points in it seesawed for a while before Maroochy kicked 5 points without answer, to keep the visitors in it.
The last quarter promised much for the Tigers but fitness and a few inexperienced things curbed a come from behind win. The Tigers didn’t come away with a win but came away with much to look forward to, with 12 players not available and three U18 players figuring in the better players.
Like last week the boys (who are old enough) enjoyed a beer and the great team spirit in the rooms after the game, those still not of age enjoyed a Solo. All agreeing that thing are looking better and the first win is closer than our first home game. Derm & Dano did the job on the bench and Rangi did a great job all day running water for the boys, all that is needed now to complete the team is a strapper/trainer, a boundary & goal umpire. (It’s tough without them). It should be noted that the injured Adrian Dunn was a great goal umpire and could be heard all over the ground barracking and suggesting what the umpires should be doing.
Goals came from, Adam Murrihy 2, Kris Bamback 2, Jamie Bower 1, Stephen Senn 1 and Brenton Andrew who kicked his first goal ever.
The best players this week went to Brett Gavin (Halse Lodge Backpackers Award), Adam Davidson (Bulli Pizza), Josh Birse & Danial Dargaville (FIT Noosa Award), Tom Genge (Donks Kebab Shop Award), Kris Bamback (Pittsy & Emma’s Fruit Shop Award) and U18 players Adam Murrihy & Logan McKenzie
Next week the boys have a bye and will be training at home on Saturday morning at 10:30am before getting together to celebrating Davo’s 40th birthday and the fact he has become a dad or about to become a dad.
