July 4th is Independence Day in America, and of course that means nothing to most of us, but there is something important happening that weekend that is important for all of us - the reunion of the Macquarie University Kookaburras.
The club is holding a weekend of festivities over the weekend on 3-4 July, and all former Kookas are invited to come along and join the party.
What’s the reunion for?
2010 is the ten year anniversary of the 2000 Premiership, the third in a row against Sydney Uni.
2010 is also the club’s 40 year anniversary. The Kookaburras played their first ever game in 1970 vs South Sydney at Erskinville Oval. Not many people know who won that match, but if you get along to the reunion you can ask Wrighty.
A lot has changed in forty years, including the name (now the Warriors) and the green and gold has been replaced with the red, white and black of St.Kilda. However the fun loving culture of the club still remains as strong as ever.
All of the club’s teams are playing at home on Saturday 3rd July, and the club is looking to organize a semi-formal dinner that evening (details tbc). Bring the family along on the Saturday and catch up with former team mates on the hill to relive how you took that amazing (chest) mark then played on to kick a truly amazing (yet simple) goal that (may not have) won the match.
On Sunday 4 July there will be an Old Boys Game for those whose bodies have not given up on you yet. Bring your boots and gear.
We’d love to see all the old faces at the reunion, so please forward this on to all the past players you know so we can have a beer with all our mates.
Further details to follow shortly.
