Thank you to all our sponsors who have come on board for
2010. Without your generous support we as a club could not survive. I would like
to take this opportunity to encourage all our members and supporters to take
note of all our many sponsors and make sure they support them throughout the
year. Each week we will aim to individually thank some of our sponsors who have
extended enormous support.
This week we acknowledge the continued support
of two of our major sponsors BOWMAN'S EARTHMOVERS and the SOMERSET HOTEL.
Lynn Bowman along with Matt have been quiet but vital supporters of
the club for a number of years and we are very grateful for your commitment
Lynn & Matt. This season we welcome Alex Gordan from the Somerset Hotel. As
in past years Alex has continued the Somersets very generous sponsorship of our
club. As previously mentioned we trust our supporters will support these
fantastic businesses.
Our first home game of the year in warm conditions saw the
Eagles have two wins out of the four games played. The oval was in top condition
and the amount of sun throughout the day was very handy as the mysterious
disappearance of a light tower would have made play difficult if conditions had
been gloomy!!
The Junior Colts had a good hit out against a similar size
Pt Mac outfit. After dominating the play in the first half without making the
opposition pay, the boys put the foot down in the last quarter to post a
comfortable win. Our award winners were: Duckys Surf Award - Luke Green, Pete Walters Award - Brett Watson,
John Cavanagh Real Estate Award - Brad Wight, Gary Nilsson Award - James
Gilbertson, HFC Ladies Committee Award - James Barclay, Hath Sport & Rec Steak Award -
Rory Whittaker.
After
enjoying a week at the top of the ladder the Senior Colts received a reality
check coming up against a well drilled Pt Mac. To the players credit they had a
solid second half and we look forward to taking them next time at the bay.
The award winners were: Seebohms Sportspower Award -Tom Schulz, KAOS Award - Kieren Agnew,John Cav Real Estate - Sam Telfer, Gary Nilsson Award - Jack Skeer, HFC Ladies Committee Award - Jonah
Brown. Dylan Clough had his hands full in the back pocket and Aden Bell did well
with limited opportunities to kick three goals. This weeks ‘Smithy’ award goes
to Cameron Slape.
With seven inclusions, bright sunny skies and home
ground advantage the B Grade took to oval with a sense of enthusiasm and purpose
that was missing the week before. After taking the first quarter to get going,
the side started to play to their capabilities and took control of the match.
Gibbo, in for his first match of the year was having a field day until his head
accidentally collided with a Port Mac players flying fist which was bad enough
until he asked the umpire for a description of the offender and the free kick
was taken off him! Maybe choose your words better next time Gibbo! Fatz was
finding plenty of the ball and had a good option up forward with Jarmo (five
goals) in for his first game. Also.Casper gave his all and was knocked up
getting possessions on the wing. In the end it was a good win by the ' B's
and something to build on for the rest of the season! Award winners were :
Beaurepaires Award - Darren Paul, Millicent
4WD System Award - Shane Lambert, Dave
Reily’s Panel & Paint Award - Luke
Haines, Grand
Hotel Award - Michael
Gibson.
First home game for the year did not go as planned for the A Grade,
having plenty of the ball in the first half we could not put the score on the
board. The second half did not get any easier, Pt Mac were moving the ball
well and kicked away to take a comfortable win. On the positive side we managed
to kick 5 goals in the last quarter with some more direct play and better use on
the ball. Our endevour is good, we just need to work on our disposal and
keep our turnovers to a minimum. Lets make sure we get out on the training track
and work hard on this and a win will not be far away. Award winners for the day were:
Tony Egan Mensland Award - Mat Faulkner, Somerset
Hotel Award - Brett Sneath, Beachport
Hotel Award - Tylah Saunders, Bompas Award - Matt
Fabris.
Thank you to Player Representatives Brett Sneath and Matt Nettle, who have
set up very successful gate rosters and change room cleaning rosters. Last
Saturday evening our senior players checked out the state of the Port MacDonell
change rooms after the match. Congratulations Pt Mac you scored a 9/10.
