The Rams` senior grades can both hold their heads high after solid performances against guaranteed finals starters Southern Sharks at Greygums Oval on Saturday.
Reserve Grade opened their game against their much more fancied opponents very well, putting in an extremely solid first half.
Although they fell away somewhat after half-time, the effort and commitment by all the players could not be faulted and a continuation of this will hopefully see a positive end to the season for the side.
The club welcomed back Matt Poulter and Karl Parker for the game, while a number of the Under 18s backed up and did well - Tayt Corless, Tim Conallin, Shane Turner, Danny Seymour (who kicked two goals and proved a good target up forward) and Jesse Begley (one of the side`s best).
Final scores were: Southern Sharks 20.21 (141) d Penrith 5.6 (36)
Senior Grade came off a much improved effort against another high flyer in UTS the week before and this reflected in the side`s performance.
Six goals down at half-time meant there was still an outside chance of victory but this was not to be. The Sharks maintained their edge in the second half to run out winners by 70 points.
Despite the final margin, as with the UTS result it was a massive improvement from the corresponding encounter earlier in the season.
Special mentions to Max Roberts who featured in the best after playing in the Under 18s, Kyle McDonagh (who also doubled up) and to young Tom McNamara who showed plenty of dash.
Final scores were: Southern Sharks 17.19 (121) d Penrith 7.9 (51)
