The Rams put in a solid effort against Manly-Warringah at Weldon Oval on Saturday.
Managing ten goals against the premiership favourites was an improvement compared to the corresponding match earlier in the season at Greygums.
Final scores were: Manly-Warringah 23.13 (151) d Penrith 10.4 (64)
Reserve Grade unfortunately could not raise the numbers to field a side.
The club did its best to get a side on the field but with so many unavailabilities it was asking too much of so many players to double up. For those passing judgment on the club for the forfeit, it is obviously difficult for them to understand the situation.
If the problems being encountered by senior football in the west of Sydney were both recognized and addressed, such situations would clearly not present themselves.Senior Coach Jason Bradley`s
match report follows:
Congratulations to all who played on Saturday against Manly. That was, by my account, our best game of football (particularly against a top two team) that we have played all season. Everyone dug deep to find that little bit extra when it was needed and everyone seemed to gain from it when they realized that the opposition were vulnerable to hard tough physical football.
This was a very even contest and only our inability to make the most of our forays into the forward line cost us a much closer score line. The way that the forwards stuck to the plan of an open forward showed that we have the personnel to kick some winning scores. We just have to continue with it.
I will single out a couple of players only because they played well above their usual standards.
Firstly, John Keane who played in the ruck all day. Easily one of his best games of the season. He showed that he has added another string to his bow in positions on the field. For a person who basically was playing his first game as a ruckman, and to equal if not beat his opponent all over the ground, it was great to watch.
Secondly, Ben Paterson & Alan Prowse had excellent games on the wing. Both players through their bodies into contests and had a mountain of possession. Again, easily their best performances of the year.
I could go through most players but this report would be way too long suffice to say that every player did very well.
Let’s now take this renewed confidence into our next match against Camden and play as a team like we did last weekend and hopefully come away with a win.
