The Inverell Saints will head on the road for the first time this season to face the Gunnedah Bulldogs at Wolsely Oval. The match looms as a massive game for both teams who have come off impressive Round 2 victories. For the Saints, this match is an opportunity to consolidate top spot on the ladder but the competition this weekend will be a far tougher test than last.
The Saints will once again look to Captain Chris Whitton for inspiration on a ground he has loved playing on. The skipper was excellent upon return last week after his 2009 campaign was restricted to just 5 games because of a serious knee injury. Peter Dunlop relished his new role up forward and will look to continue on from his fine game last weekend and along with his fellow front liners in Mick Viney and Gary Hadland, the Full Forward line looks very dangerous to any team.
The Saints new recruits were also impressive last week, none more so than Mitch Hall who demonstrated a plenty of footy IQ for a bloke who only picked up a Sherrin a month ago. He will once again be important in the midfield this weekend. For Luke Selig and Dave Vidovic, this is a homecoming match to clash with the team they called home in the past. Both made big impressions last week and will once again make up a large part of the Saints plans this weekend.
This is a match that looms as a huge one for the Saints at a venue they have had trouble getting the points in recent times. However a win can help set up an early assault on the TAFL this year. There's plenty of work to do before that time and the Saints will no doubt enter the match underdogs against the Dogs who destroyed the Cats away from home in Round 2. Either way, this match will be an absolute cracker.
