We had a good start to the season with all our sides beginning slowly and then finishing well on top. The Senior Craig Coghlan Pewter was won by Matt Greig, for a match turning 7 goals, but in particular 6 in the third quarter. We think a Club record. Other best were Dan Papillio, Ryan Mullett, Robbie Ross, Daniel Mendes, Dean Millhouse, Nathan Henley. Some excellent first games from Dean Kelly, Dane Andonov. Tom Carmody and Scott Cameron. The Reserves were terrific with the Perry Fletcher Award going to Luc Pisano, followed by Fletcher Stewart, Wayne McInerney, James Siekavelis, Jarrod Macdonald. The Colts looked in a big hole early but played some very impressive footy to comfortably get home. The Elite Appliances Award went to Lachlan Johns. Followed by the Xavier Barry-Murphy, Jesse Gannon, Kieren McAuley, Brett Casterton and Pat Burmeister

A warm 28 degrees for the season’s opener against Norwood. Before the game we unfurled our 4th Premiership flag in 5 years. New faces in the seniors included Dane Andonov, Dean Kelly and Tom Carmody plus Vic Siciliano who played one game last year. Out with injury were Dean Waller, Mark Griffiths, Tim Johnson, David Spriggs and Mark Cullen. Coming up from the reserve ranks were Scott Cameron, Matt Smith and Michael Rogneda.
We lost Bardon early with a foot injury and we were sluggish at the start. For the punters, former Noble Park star Dean Kelly kicked the first goal of the season. Norwood were super impressive early with their desire and run and quickly set up a lead of 5 goals to one. Mendes kicked 2 goals in 3 minutes but Norwood replied on the siren to lead at ¼ time 6-4 to 3-3. Mullett and Ross were starring.
The 2nd quarter was a period of missed opportunity as we kicked 2 goals 10. Goals came from Mullett via a turnover and Ross via Kelly. One of the highlights was a brilliant smother by Papillo. We failed to capitalise with the wind and trailed by 17 points at ½ time 9-6 to 5-13. Better players for the half were Mullett, Ross, Cotchett, Kelly, Mendes and Millhouse.
The 3rd term belonged to Matt Greig. Norwood kicked the first to lead by 23 points. Greig hit the ground hard and took a long time to get up. It stung him into action as he started a goalkicking rampage with 6 for the quarter. Froud had a mixed term with 1 goal and a yellow card. Other goals came from Mendes, Siciliano and Mullett. What a contrast to the previous quarter as we slammed on 10 goals 2 to lead at ¾ time by 36 points 15-15 to 10-9. Greig was outstanding. Our defence was well on top led by McCarthy, Millhouse and Rushton.
In the last quarter we kicked 6 goals to 1. Kelly kicked 2 with singles to Froud, Cotchett. Dore, Rushton and Greig. At the final siren we had won by 64 points having scored 16 goals to 2 after half time. Better players for the half were

Coach’s Comments – It was a hot taxing day. David paid tribute to first gamer Scott Cameron. Overall, it was a very very pleasing 4 quarters for the team.
The RESERVES had a good win after taking the first half to find their legs. Caneva and Bull goaled in the 1st term but at ¼ time we trailed 3-2 to 2-4.
At half time we led by 10 points after McInerney kicked 2 goals and Bordin one. Vermont led 5-7 to 4-3. Better players for the half were Stewart, Shambrook, Caneva, Henderson , Mendco, McDonald and Bull.
We kicked 7 goals to 2 in the 3rd term with Quon, McInerney and Bordin among our better players. Goals came from Pisano, Dornauff, Stewart, Jones, Caneva, Bordin and McInerney. At ¾ time we led 12-13 to 6-7

THE COLTS
Before the Colt’s game it was widely tipped that Norwood could be the benchmark team this year. Norwood kicked the first 3 goals as we missed many shots. It took 15 minutes before Barry-Murphy kicked our first. Yousef was prominent early.
We kicked 6 goals to 2 in the 2nd term. Goals from Barry-Murphy then Sonsie after a strong tackle then skipper Williams and we led by 3 points. Our intensity lifted with more goals coming from Barry-Murphy and Willians. Gannon was terrific down back then Cooper goaled via Yousef. Norwood kicked a late one but at half time we led 7-6 to 5-2. Better players for the half were Batty-Murphy, Willians,Lawlor, Gannon, Johns and Yousef.
It was a fairly even 3rd term as we kicked 4-1 to 3-6. Williams goaled again then McCulloch converted after good teamwork. McAuley’s tackling was an inspiration then Sonsie and Johnson goaled to give up a 17 point lead at ¾ time 11-7 to 8-8.
We completely over ran them in the last quarter kicking 8-3 to 2-2. Davidson and Williams kicked 2 goals each with Barry-Murphy, Sonsie, McAuley and Strachan all getting in the goal action. The colt’s winning by 55 points and looking a much tougher unit than last year.Better players for the half were Barry-Murphy, Thompson, Castersen and Burmeister.
Goalkickers – Williams 5, Barry-Murphy 4, Sonsie 3, Davidson 2 and singles to Cooper, McCulloch, Johnson, McAuley abd Stachan.
Coach’s Best Players – Johnson, Barry-Murphy, Gannon, McAuley, Castersen and Burmeister.
Coach’s Comments – Gannon worked hard around the football. It was a great win – I was impressed with our contested footy – thanks to our team leader – it was a good opener.
