The Div 3 team had a tough start in the wet at Palmwoods, with around 16 players unavailable the boys did well to scrape together 16 (almost fit) players for the game played in the worst conditions for football imaginable.
Things looked unlikely to go ahead with the umpires having concerns with the condition of the ground, most notably the southern half where your foot would sink into the earth 4 inches. Under an umbrella in driving rain the officials walked the ground and decided it was fit for play.
Led by new captain Kris Bamback the boys went forward first to put a scare into the locals with a full complement of players, from there it got tough real quick for Noosa who couldn’t match the run of Nambour. A couple of injuries meant the boys had to hide injured players in the forward line and found it tough to score. Whilst we have named a few best players we had many solid contributors, Peter Holden at Full Back worked hard all day and Tim Seccombe is showing signs of becoming a good ruckmen. Goals came from the two oldest blokes on the ground Toby Jackson & coach Chris Cameron.
The Noosa boys who played must be congratulated for the effort put in, winning most centre breaks and were first to the footy all day. The score board didn’t do justice to way everyone stuck at all day and did so under trying conditions with a smile.
Best players were Adam Davison (Halse Lodge Award) Adrian Dunn (Pittsy & Emma’s Fruit Shop Award) Ricky Cooper (FIT Noosa Award) Kris Bamback (Bulli Pizza Award) Toby Jackson and Tom Gange who came up from the under 18’s to help out and played a great game.
In the rooms after the game most players enjoyed a beer and laugh still in the former white jumpers that are now brown and all agreed we can take much from the game and the future look bright once we can get a full complement of 22 players.
