In a first quarter that the coach would probably prefer to
forget, the opposition came out firing, leaving Broadbeach looking very out of
sorts.
Unable to win in the ruck and out of the centre, hold marks
and capitalise on any entry into the forward line, Broady managed only 1 goal
for the quarter. The opposition however, looked strong, quick and way hungrier
for the ball, chalking up goals each time the ball entered their forward 50,
booting 5:2 to lead by 24 points at the first break.
The second quarter saw a total turnaround. Broadbeach
started to win in the ruck, the onballers delivering the ball quickly into the
forward line, resulting in goals. The backs were also working harder and kept
Coolangatta to only 1 goal for the quarter. Good goals from our leaders lifted
the Cat’s side and apart from a few too many handballs at times our guys seemed
to click and play much better footy.
The downside for Broady was however what appeared to be a
severe knee injury to Mitch Nibb. (we wish you all the best for a quick
recovery).
In the third quarter the Cats continued where they left off.
Strong tackling, great smothering, exceptional ruckwork (well done Will), and
pinpoint passing, hitting targets was rewarded with the side adding 3:2 to the
scoreboard.
Coolangatta scored their only goal for the quarter as a
result of an easy turnover.
The final term also belonged to Broadbeach. Despite
dropping some easy marks and missing a few goals the guys continued to work
hard, winning the ball and dominating pretty much all over the ground,
appearing to do everything the coach had asked of them.
Coolangatta managed 2 goals late in the quarter (too little
–too late!). 3 goals: 4 from the Cats saw them take the 4 points at the final
siren with a well deserved 16 point win.
Final Score: Broadbeach 10 9 69 def Coolangatta 9 5 59
Best: Will Wolbers, Stuart Ramsay, Nick Sheehan,
Nic Gordon, Darcy Dienjes and Shae Killey.
Goals: Nick Sheehan 4, 2 to Shae Killey and Stuart
Ramsay, singles to Josh Perring, Fraser Gregor and Darcy Dienjes.
