The second term saw the Tigers new combinations starting to
flow and the big guns up front of Roundy, Jacob & Tits capitalised on some excellent
delivery from the half back line through the middle. Tigers new recruit Arnold
Knight was outstanding helping the Tigers to kick 7 goals to 2 for the quarter.
With a 22 point half time lead the Tigers were looking good.
However you can never underestimate a champion team and the
Magpies came out from the break on fire, running freely through the middle with
their star forwards starting to dominate the 3/4 time score was reversed to see
the Tigers down by 16 points.
The heat was playing a big factor and whilst they were down
the Tigers weren’t done just yet. The final quarter saw a huge rev up from
Coach Shags and the assistance of a strong tail wind the Tigers started to pull
in the Magpies. The intensity at the ball lifted and the hard preseason work
was paying dividends. The Tigers kicked 5 goals to 3 for the final term and with
their tails up and the scent of victory the final siren sounded with the Tigers
just 2 points shy of a Rd 1 win.
It was a tough result for the Tigers, with accuracy, and a lack
lustre 3rd quarter proving the difference. Credit must go to Byron
who used their combinations well and never stopped running.
All the Tigers players contributed in a great team effort with
best on ground going to Benny well supported by Bones, Arnold, Roundy and Bolty.
Tigers Goal Kickers – Round 4, Benny 3, Bones 2, Jacob 2, Arnold 1, Nath 1, Pepe 1, Rambo 1.
Training will be on this Tuesday and the quiet word is goal
kicking and handballing will be the order of the day.
Rd 2 next week sees the Tigers first home game of the season
v Lismore Swans, Sat 17th April 2pm.
Big thanks must go to the Tigers volunteer staff (Mark,
Lucy, Terry, Tony) and especially the big group of supporters who travelled to
Bangalow.
