Seniors
Heavy showers ensured slippery conditions prevailed in the opening skirmishes. Neither side could establish supremacy, the only difference being the class of Jarrod Holt who booted 3 majors in the first quarter.Casterton clawed their way back into the contest but Portland seemed to have the answers. The relentless pressure exerted by some crunching tackles seemed to take the sting out of the home side. The flow on effect was that Portland was able to attack incessantly and set up numerous attacking moves. The later part of he game saw the Tigers gain complete dominance with goals coming in rather rapid fashion. There were many superb participants, each sticking to the team plan and playing with great discipline. The Rolls Royce- Jarrod Holt- gained top honours in slotting home 6 majors, but he was closely followed by Shane Keegan, Daniel Falcone, Marcus England, Dylan Fry, Cam Mather and 15 others. Overall, a good return on a day that potentually had a lot of pitfalls. Particularly heartening was the polished showing from youngsters Justin Van Heugten, Tom Rogers and David Finnigan-it seems to augur well for the future.
