Premier Division
Sensational weather at Gore Hill Oval when the Bombers opened their season, taking on Wollongong. And it didn't take long for the Bombers to assert themselves, a goal in the opening minute giving the Bombers the lead, which they would not relinquish all day.
The Bombers led by 14 points at the first change, and after kicking the first three goals of the second term the lead blew out to over five goals; a spectacular leg break goal from Ben Attwood putting the Bombers well on top. But Wollongong weren't going down without a fight, and every time the Bombers looked like running away with the game the Lions would fight back. At half time the lead was 17 points, and when the Lions kicked the first goal within a minute of the third quarter starting the contest was still well and truly up for grabs.
But when the game was there to be won, the Bombers again stepped up a gear, dominating the second half. The final winning margin was 64 points, a great start to the season.
Captain Ron Wason was in sensational form, moving from full back to the forward line to not only play a part in shutting down the Lions' forward line but scoring three goals himself. Also in the goals with bags of 3 goals were Kerrin Hughes and Lachie Pryor. Chris Murphy in defence and Teddy Strudwick around the ground were also prominent performers; while new signings Jeremy Stiller, Mark Powell and ruckman Russell Grigg also impressed in their first appearance in the Bombers' jumper. But it was a solid all-round team performance, with everyone playing a role in making the result happen.

First Division
Our reserves team had a good first-up result, dominating all day to defeat Wollongong by 96 points. Despite some players doubling-up from the scratch match played before the game, the Bombers had too much strength around the ground.
Tom Hill, back on the field after a two year injury absence, had a triumphant return, kicking four goals in a best on ground performance. Jason and Adrian Harry were also key performers, while Luke Slater and John Gray were also strong around the ground. But again, it was a good team effort which gives the team a good confidence boost for the season ahead.

Under 18s
With the Under 18s season opening match postponed, the under 18s took part in an intra-club scratch match. It was a good hit-out for the players, before their first premiership match next week.
Next week all three grades travel to Blacktown to take on UNSW-ES on Saturday.
