It will be a full day of football at Cooke-Murphy Reserve on Sunday with the Tradelink Western Magpies taking on Labrador in 3 grades with the U/18's at 9am, Reserves at 11.15am and the Seniors kicking off at 2pm.
Conrad Hudghton the younger brother of retired St Kilda star and Wests Premiership player Max Hudghton will make his QAFL debut for the Tradelink Western Magpies this Sunday against Labrador. The talented youngster played his first QAFL senior game last week as top up player in the Lions win against Mt Gravatt at the GABBA. He will join a number of new faces in the Magpies line up for 2010 including Captain Chris Mihalipoulos returning from knee injury, Gerard Moore back at Chelmer, and hard nut James Rozynski.
Other Magpies returning to the fold after long term injuries in 2009 are freakishly talented youngster Zaine Pringle returning from a broken leg and young ruckman Dominic Beer following shoulder surgery. Three other players will make their QAFL debuts for the Tradelink Western Magpies in Greg Lavey an U/18 QLD representative from the Hervey Bay Bombers, James Power a young gun from ATW Bundaberg and Cameron Mitchelhill who was a member of the Western Magpies U/18 GF team in 2009.
The Tradelink Western Magpies won a nailbiter when the teams last met in a practice match at Chelmer 3 weeks ago but that will count for little as both teams were missing key personell. Shattock, Notting, Noble and Everett will make a huge difference to the Tigers as will the home advantage.
For the Magpies Chrias Mihalipoulos, James Rozynski, David Hamill, Zaine Pringle and Greg Lavey were all missing back in March and will make a huge difference to the strength and flexibility in the Magpies line up that is now much stronger and experienced than the team that lined up Round 1 in 2009. One of the major beneficiaries of the strengtened line up in 2010 has been Ed Mcdonnell who has been freed up to play a much more attacking role in defence going for his marks and pushing up the ground although he will be missing support from evergreen Tim McEvoy out with a hamstring injury.
Drive from Richard Wenham rebounding off half back, the exciting pre-season form of Matt Dillon on the wing and Greg Friis, Scott Clarke, Luke Scott and Val Pope featuring in a talented and versatile forward line bolstered by Chris Judson, Blake McClennan and Ben Jaenke-Cain working through the midfield will help the Magpies as they strive for an upset.
Many knockers of varying intellegence have knocked the Magpies again in 2010 many saying they will go winless again. Get down to Labrador and support the boys as they strive to stick it to the critics in Round 1.
Line Up is attached.
