We would like to congratulate all of our players who repesented the Altona Football Club throughout the 2010 season. You all played with the passion, committment, and respect that we expect from all Altona Football Club players.
With our Senior side reaching the Division One finals, and our Reserves & U`18A teams both making the Preminary Finals, it was a successful 2010 season and we look forward to an even more successful 2011 season and beyond.
Reserves Report:
Our Reserves jumped out of the blocks well in the first quarter matching it with Spotswood in all departments. Hodgy was dominant in the ruck feeding the midfielders who were lively, this gave our forwards some opportunities but they were limited. Altona went in to the first break with a 3 point lead.
The wind picked up in the second quarter which gave Spotswood a big advantage. All of a sudden Altona were second to the ball and this told the tale of the second quarter which Spotswood won easily. At half time Altona were 28 points down.
With the wind playing tricks in the third term, Altona started to get back on top but we just couldn`t hurt the opposition on the scoreboard. We kicked 3 goals to Spotswoods 1 goal in the third quarter to go into the last term down by 16 points.
The rain started in the final quarter and we were kicking against a strong breeze but our boys played their guts out and again mached it with Spotswood but in the end we just couldn`t close the gap going down gallantly by 17 points.
Reserves goal kickers were: Josh Rafferty (5 goals), Guy McCleish (2 goals), Kevin McDonald, Matt Barbaro.
Reserves best players were: Anthony Hodgetts, Steven Resic, Wes Whitfield, Shaun Hagger, Kyle Spencer, Adam Magnabosco, and special mention to Josh Rafferty for his 5 goals.
Under 18A Report:
Our 18A team went in hot favourites against Spotswood in the Preliminary Final and like the Reserves, our boys were great early in the first quarter but only went into the quarter time break with a slender 1 point lead. Spotswood took control in the second quarter and simply attacked the ball and wanted it more than Altona and that theme continued for the remainder of the game. Our boys were brave but Spotswood won by 49 points.
Goal kickers were: Jason Pace (2 goals), Luke Salmond, Corey Irving, Zac Segger, Billy Ward.
Best players were: Billy Ward, Mitch Turnbull, Adam Ostrowski, Josh Saville, Zac Segger, Matt McCartney.
