2009 Co Captains Mark Dowley and Chris Mihalopoulos were once again announced as Co Captains of the Western Magpies in 2010 in front of over 100 players, coaches, parents and sponsors at the clubs Season Launch on Saturday Night. The stand in captain in 2009 Tim McEvoy was named as Vice Captain and a trio of Deputy Vice Captains Ed McDonnell, Luke Scott and Richard Wenham were named to round out the Western Magpies 2010 Leadership Group.
The mood was positive at the club following the gutsy 8.7.55 to 7.8.50 win over Labrador to record the clubs first Senior win since returning to the QAFL last season. Many will be quick to point out that Labrador were missing Notting, Shattock, Noble and Everett but those prepared to dig a little deeper would recognise the Magpies were missing James Rozynski, Chris Mihalopoulos, David Hamill attending Todd Dunn’s wedding in Fiji while Dowley performed well in a prescribed first quarter only appearance.
Coach Paul Grentell addressed the room and stated although a practice match the win was vital for the group in terms of confidence and self belief as well as faith in what the club has been working on and the changes made in the Pre-Season.
Mihalopoulos, Rozynski and co will return this weekend and could be joined by talented youngster Zaine Pringle for some restricted match practice, returning from a broken leg, against Southport at Surfers Paradise (Not Frankhouser) in a true test for the Magpies.
