These facilities are well used by the community of Mt Burr and were showing signs of wear and tear from constant use. The community hall is used as club facilities by the local sporting community group’s football, netball and cricket teams. It is used for community meetings and by the primary school for concerts and events.
Most of the community use the hall throughout the year for special occasions such as weddings, wakes, birthdays etc.
In 2009, the Mt Burr Football Club Management Committee applied for a Facilities Upgrade Grant through the Office for Recreation and Sports Active Club Program. They were successful with their application which has helped tremendously with their project to improve the quality and standard of their facility.
Included in the submission were letters of support from the Wattle Range Council’s CEO Frank Brennan, the Mt Burr Netball Club President Lisa Scott, the Mt Burr Primary School Principle Anne-Marie Fitzgerald, the Mt Burr Community Progress Association Chairperson Klaus Kanahs, the Manager of the ANZ Bank Darren Dean and long time resident of Mt Burr Syd Hardy.
The upgrade has included fresh paintwork, new carpet, a new and larger tiled area in front of the bar, the timber dance floor has been sanded and resealed, a new slow combustion heater and surround and a refurbishment of the outdoor area including new guttering, paintwork, paving and fencing.
Thanks goes to Braithwaites Carpet Choice for a wonderful job with the new carpet and to Gambier Tile Centre for supplying the great looking new tiles.
However, the community of Mt Burr can be extremely proud of the effort they put into pulling off such a huge undertaking before the start of the 2010 season. Community and committee members spent most of their January, February and March weekends in the club rooms doing whatever needed doing to get the job done.
Everyone is welcome at Mt Burr and we look forward to hosting all the Mid South East Clubs in our great facilities in 2010.
