Season 2009
“I don't think anyone at Dunolly is under any illusion that to move up the ladder will take anything other than hard work. D-Mac put into place this year a much improved work ethic around the club and this resulted in a better win/loss ratio than seen in many a year. Should the club be satisfied? - Absolutely not.
D Mac and the board have continued their work post season and a new coach and several recruits have come on board. However I have not heard a soul at Dunolly state that success will come as a natural given. On the contrary - the players realise that the improvement this year came about through a greater commitment to training and following directions. They also realise that to continue that improvement requires a further commitment to improving as individual footballers and as a team.” Bluey
Welcome to the 2009 season, in what we hope will be an exciting year for the Dunolly Football & Netball Club. Last year finished on a real high with our Senior A & B Grade Netball teams winning premierships. Having the opportunity to play the first match of the MCDFL season was an honour and we are very appreciative of the support from the BFL Hub.
Last year was an important for the Dunolly Club because we believe that the foundations were made to make our club much more competitive. This year the executive has changed significantly with Daniel McNamee as President, Rob Edwards Vice President, Vicky Tierney Secretary and Stan McNamee Treasurer. The club's improved position was due to the long and excellent service of the following people Barry Taylor, Faye Nicholson and Mavis Park who filled the following respective positions of President, Secretary and Treasurer.
There is great enthusiasm around Dunolly with almost all of last year's footballers and netballers fronting up again. There are several fresh faces on the coaching front Jeremy Sanders and James McNamee are our senior coaches and Ray Heffernan will coach the U17's. It is pleasing that Bluey McGeown will continue to coach the reserves while Premiership Netball coach Vicky Tierney will be in charge of our A, B & C sides.
We wish to thank the Laane Dunolly Cricket Club, the Dunolly Recreation Trustees, the Dunolly Fire Brigade and Councillor John Smith for their help and assistance. It is hoped that through the work of the DFNC and the above groups that we will see a toilet / shower block built next to the netball courts as well a program that should make Deledio Reserve drought proof.
The club will hit the field in their new look uniforms (both football and netball) and we would like to thank the Maryborough Golf Club on becoming our major sponsor. The Dunolly Bakery, Dunolly Quality Meats, the Tarnagulla Golden Age Hotel and Maryborough TyrePower have taken up other important sponsorship packages.
The off season has been an exciting time for the club and the development of a sister club relationship with the NTFL side the Wanderers has generated much interest. We would like to thank Tim Karpany, Alex Erlandson, Ash Matz and North Melbourne Premiership player Shannon Motlop for being the first to be involved in the venture.
We would like to thank Ros Lanigan of the Weekly Times for coming to our jumper presentation night and an article on the Dunolly FNC will be in next edition of the Weekly times. The Jumper Presentation night was a great success with the highlight being the presentation of the premiership flag to our A & B Grade netballers.
The club has developed a great social calendar - so come and take part.
