New Coaching Appointment at Magpies
Premiership defender Rhys McAlister has been appointed as an Assistant Coach at Belconnen Magpies for season 2010 - 2011 and is super-keen to develop his coaching profile and CV in the AFL Canberra competition. McAlister said “I am overwhelmed by the breadth and depth of the role Belconnen has offered me and the support they will provide me for my coaching development”
McAlister will be charged with coaching the backline together with the various aspects of being an assistant coach at an AFL Canberra club; training drills, mentoring, match committee, forward scouting, player performance, feedback , video reviews etc.
General Manager, Garry Davidson is delighted with the appointment saying “Rhys is a highly regarded player whose values and work ethic were recognised early in 2009, his dedication to training, personal well-being and fitness provides a great role model to all the young players”.
“Additionally he has a thirst for knowledge and its application in the coaching sphere that should provide a greater stimulus for player development for all players and coaching staff at Belconnen”.
Club President Daryl Read acknowledged “since we lost Nathan Clark who had a good coaching profile and was an avid researcher on coaching we now have Rhys who displayed similar qualities in wanting to be the best coach he can and we will support him doing this”.
A former Wagga boy McAlister will be a valuable “recruiting prospector” for Belconnen and has firsthand experience of Queensland Football will also be utilised as the club presses forward to have sustained success in future years.
