THE new netball facilities at Eureka Stadium will come to life on Saturday.
Reigning triple Ballarat Football League senior netball premiers Lake Wendouree will take on teams from North City, Darley, Redan, Creswick and Avoca in a battle for the Eureka Cup.
The six-team challenge will support Saturday's NAB Challenge match between North Melbourne and Hawthorn at the same venue.
It will be the first time the new netball facility has been used competitively after it was completed at the end of last year.
The battle for the Eureka Cup is being touted as netball's answer to Twenty20 cricket, with teams playing a series of pool matches over two 10-minute halves, before the top two move into the final.
"In country areas, football and netball go hand in glove, so it was important to have netball played here on Saturday," North Ballarat Football Club chief executive officer Mark Patterson said.
"Our facilities are now amongst the best available and it's great to have netball return alongside footy at Eureka Stadium."
The competition will be supported by the City of Ballarat.
"I encourage the community to make a day of it by coming down to watch the netballers play on the new facilities and staying on for the afternoon to see an AFL match played right here in Ballarat," Mayor Judy Verlin said.
The Eureka Cup will begin from 10am, with the final expected to commence just after 1pm.
