Well, you will be surpised to know, that whilst hiding out at Roger Sheeran Oval to take a sneak peek at the Warrriors pre-season training recently, I stumbled on Stix yet again hiding behind the sheds. In a coming edition, I will bring you greater detail on this man they call "Stix" and find out what makes this club stalwart man tick, but for now, the Warriors held their 2nd session for the 3km time trial and all eyes were on the Jacko twins.
Hot-Jacko vs Not-Hot-Jacko - the battle we were here to see. 11.48 was the time he-of-the-hotter-variety crossed the line in, and it was interesting to see he-of-the-lesser-hottness come across the line in 12.39. Asst Coach Scotty commented "I am sure I saw a tear from NHJ as he flew across the line behind his brother, the disappointment of playing second fiddle was clearly evident on his face. I still think we will pit them against each other in the 7th March trial still and see who comes up trumps for the Senior wingmen position. the position is well and truly open".
What stunned me from peaking around from behind the sheds, was not Stix and his wandering hands, but Thomas Pope, the man with the Toupee who flew around the track in 11.4. Even more stunning, was the big man, Timmy Scoular, who led everyone in a blistering 11.3. Word is the young man, after taking a few grabs with the Geelong stars recently, is looking to step up to dominate Div 1 in 2010. Just to make sure the time was correct, I checked in with official time keeper DK, who stated that he personally has been having trouble with his opposable thumbs and the operation of the stopwatch of late, but yes it was correct, Timmy led the pack. Catching up with Timmy, I asked him what he attributes his development to -"well, I have had a strong off-season with my little brother Matty. The guys will know him as the Div 4 Coach. Well, anyway, we have been doing a few drills and I can honestly put it all down to him, he is the best Coach at the Club".
Whilst working out how to use the stopwatch to his full advanatge, DK became a bit worried about poor old Rover advising me "we sent out a search party to find Rove as he must have been a bit lost crawling over the line in 15.29, but funnily enough it was Wazza the boys brought back in a stretcher and I clocked him in at 15.53. It looks like Matty will have himself a great wingman for the year".
We now head into the final session of the fitness testing component of pre-season - Will NHJ trump over HJ? Is Carter ever going to turn up? Will Rove find his way? Will Rooster be able to beat G Stud or keep going backwards with his times?
Only time will tell...
