A mighty welcome back for 2010! The New Year has started in great style for the Mighty Friars with great participation at training with a fit and healthy list. A special mention must go to the college who have provided us with a fantastic surface to train on and the use of a very well appointed gymnasium for players requiring strength and/or recovery work. Also great thanks go to Tony Mitchell who is at training every Tuesday and Thursday running the Gym as part of our obligations in its use. Without this we would not have the access we do, Thanks Tony!
Our playing stocks look to be in great order although more are most welcome and in particular new Under 19 players who will form the core future of our club. The committee is currently working through the lists to determine the number of teams we can field for the season.
The coaching panel has now taken further shape with the appointment of Damian Naismith as Under 19 coach. It would appear that other coaching opportunities are likely to open up with at least one extra team and assistance required for most of the lead appointments.
The appointment of Robbo was a great step in ensuring we set a great fitness level. To ensure we maintain that we have also added to our medical capability, our trainers lead by Pete Bullock do a magnificent job. We have now added to that with physio support from our recently retired champ Ben Janson. Final details are still to be covered but BJ will be an important factor in injury prevention and management.
Being part of the college it is important to recognise that 2010 is 50th Anniversary of Whitefriars College. There will a number of events during the year for the college that club will support along with assisting the Old Collegians in tracking down past students for 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50 year reunions! Most of all we want to help the College celebrate by being able to present them with a number premierships on the field and great camaraderie off the field.
