On behalf of the Mitcham Football Club, I would like to wish our Sponsors, Members, Volunteers and Supporters a happy and safe 2010.
The committee and coaching staff have been working extremely hard during the off season to ensure the club has every opportunity at improving on season 09’. With coaching staff now finalized and successful recruiting well underway the club finds itself in a much better position, compared to previous years.
After a long interview process I was confident we had found the ideal coach to take this club forward in 2010 and beyond. After witnessing Scott and his staff over the Christmas period, I have no doubt that this years playing group will receive the opportunity and guidance required to improve their football, both for the club and as individuals.
Senior, Reserves and Under 18’s coaching positions are now finalized and listed below;
Seniors: Scott Homeweood (Snr Coach), Andrew Strong (Ass Coach)
Paul Chipperfield (Ass Coach), David Weinlich (Ass Coach),
Marcus Kenny (Playing Ass Coach), Darren Skinner (Runner)
Reserves: John Tymensen (Res Coach), Kevein Tymensen (Ass Coach) *
Under 18’s: Glenn Murray (Colts Coach) *
* Other positions to be advised.
Joining us back for season 2010 is football manager Paul Dennis (Rocky). Paul is an outstanding addition to the club freeing up members of the committee to concentrate on building the club off the field.
After signing Scott as senior coach, we addressed several key areas on-field that required some improvement. Recruiting for 2010 has been structured around these areas. To date the club has signed several new players who will join the Tigers this season. The focus now shifts to our existing playing group who will undergo contract talks over the coming weeks.
The club would like to welcome the following new players to Mitcham and wish them all the best in season 2010;
- Marcus Kenny: Age 26, Key Forward, Lilydale F.C (Div 1)
- Andrew Strong: Age 27, Ruckman, Lilydale F.C (Div 1)
- Ben Law: Age 23, Key Backman, Scoresby F.C (Div 1)
- Brad Jenkinson, Age 22, Midfielder, Lilydale F.C (Div 1)
- Julian Rozycki, Age 19, Midfielder, Bayswater F.C (Div 2)
- Steve Kenny, Age 24, Midfielder, Lilydale F.C (Div 1)
- Josh Hewitt, Age 20, Midfielder, Sth Croydon F.C (Div 2)
There are many other players new to the club that have been training and have not had the chance to sign at this stage of the year. We will continue to update the list as this occurs.
We have seen very few departures from last years playing list. Al Cowan will return to his home club (Croydon) in 2010. We wish Al all the best in season 2010 and the future and thank him for his services during a tough time for the club. Luke Higgins has announced his retirement from Mitcham and football all together. Unfortunately a serious shoulder injury has shortened Luke’s career. Luke was a tremendous player for both Norwood and Mitcham and will be sorely missed out on the filed. As a best and fairest winner of the club, I congratulate Luke on his career and wish him and his family all the best for their future.
The Mitcham Football Club 2009 Yearbook is now available online. Go to the clubs website and follow the prompts to download. Thanks to Junior President Luke Smith and Senior Secretary Steve Fraser for putting the yearbook together.
Finally I am pleased to announce that Retravision (Ringwood) have come onboard as the clubs principle sponsor for season 2010. Danny and Greg Scanlon are both past players of the club and have agreed to get behind the Tigers once again. This is a major win for the club early in the season and a bonus for all Mitcham members and supporters. With quality products at the best possible prices, not only does your business support our sponsors and the club, you also benefit. There is nothing that Retravision does not sell, so pop down and see the boys, mention the club and you will reap the rewards.
