The MBUFC Committee has received a plan to widen the distance between the playing oval boundary and the fence posts from the current 2.8m to a minimum of 4m. Safety to players is the primary reason, with a secondary safety issue of removing the horizontal rails to prevent injury to children riding bikes around the oval, and patrons attempting to climb over the rails on wet days. The scope of the project would include:
-
Remove the fence from the visitors interchange box in a clockwise direction to the south east light tower, and install bollards inbetween the existing trees and seating.
-
Remove the fence from the scoreboard in an anti-clockwise direction to the south east light tower and install bollards to form a new fence.
-
Increase the boundary playing buffer from 2.8m to 4m along the remaining fenceline.
-
Realign the boundary to make the oval more symmetrical, this would have minimal impact on the existing playing area, as 1m lost in one area might be gained in another.
We must stress that this plan is by no means final, a cost has not been quoted, and there is no time frame or guarantee that this will be implemented. This is just one idea that the Committee has received, and we welcome any other ideas.
