In 2006 Nathan Spring was kicking around a round ball and attending Nambour Christian College and quietly living in Palmwoods after being born just shy of the Big Banana in Coffs Harbour.
A letter from the Suncoast Power Under 16's inviting him to have a run has certainly changed his life as he did a sporting U Turn and mixed playing for Nambour Under 16's with the Suncoast Power program.
By the time the 2008 season came around Nathan at 17 was playing Seniors (B.O.G. in Div 3 GF against our Tigers) and Under 18's at Nambour with Suncoast Under 18 duties.
When in 2009 he missed out on those nominated locally for the new GCFC, Nathan's coach David Harding pushed hard for him and after having a run with the club for 1 day a week, he was soon asked to train fulltime (4 days a week 9am-4pm) and by mid year was living on the Goldy with his mum to support his AFL dream.
Nathan established himself in the second half of the '09 season and played in all 3 finals as the GC U18's finished fourth in the comp, with the 184 cm half back doing a mighty job as he learned the code whilst trying to impress each week.
At this stage, Nathan has declined an offer to be a part of the program in 2010 given the time and financial constraints that it would place on him and his family and wants a more balanced life including having a kick at Noosa.
Away from footy, Nathan hopes to get into a Sports & Exercise Science degree course next year and dabbles in a bit of clothing design (check out his brand website Pinga by CLICKING HERE) and loves Surfing and hanging with his girlfriend and mates.
Nathan - welcome to Tigerland! We hope you have a great season and may the footy Gods look after the rest!
