The Northern Knights 'Tall Player Clinic' was held on Tuesday 1st December.
The aim of the Clinic was to identify any tall athlets/footballers in the Northern Metropolitan Region of Victoria and educate them on the finer points of ruckwork, contested overhead marking and body on body marking contests.
AFL stars Hamish McIntosh (North Melbourne), Michael Hurley (Essendon), and Jordan Roughead (Western Bulldogs), VFL Player Jake Spiteri (Northern Bullants) as well as 2009 Northern Knights Captain Tom Hill were on hand as Clinic coaches, educating the players about technique and the use of body in such situations.
The Clinic was available to any Tall Player (190+) that lived in the Northern Region to attend. 30 players were invited to particpate in the clinic, of which 9 were not involved in any Knights Development Squads at all.
In this year's AFL National Draft, 26 players over 190cm were drafted to AFL Clubs with Sam Grimley (198cm) of the Northern Knights being drafted to Hawthorn at Pick No.39 after only four games of TAC Cup.
Even though it is traditionally the football 'off' season the interest in the Clinic gained was very encouraging.
Plans are in place to hold another Talls Clinic early in 2010.
