The finalization of the Dandenong Stingrays TAC Cup season was the annual vote count and presentation night held last weekend at the Dingley International.
The vote count saw reliable defender Tom Gillies awarded the Stingrays Best and Fairest award for season 2008. Gillies polled in 16 out of 22 games for a total of 131 votes to win by 35 votes. Voting was very close and at the end of the home away games there were still 5 players within striking distance but it was Gillies superior form in the finals that had him run away with the award.
Runner up was gun forward and leading goal kicker, Aaron Purves with 96 votes followed by mid-fielders Ryan Bastinac and captain Ricky Ferraro with 92 votes apiece. Then followed defender Michael Hibberd on 85, young star Tom Scully on 81 who polled in all of the 8 TAC Cup games he played in, last years winner Matthew Clark on 76, Ruckman and most improved player winner Levi Casboult on 74, wingman Shane Savage on 71 with Steven Gaertner and Scott Sienkiewicz on 69. Sienkiewicz and Hibberd were jointly awarded the coaches award by Graeme Yeats for their team orientated and determined efforts throughout the season.
