The weekend release of the names of the 13th intake of AIS AFL Academy scholarships over the weekend saw three young Stingrays players offered scholarships.
Luke Parker, Adam Treloar and Dylan Sheil will participate in a 12 month program under the guidance of AIS/AFL Academy High Performance Coach Jason McCartney. The program includes 2 separate weeks at the AIS in Canberra, a 1 week camp in Melbourne, training with an AFL club for a week all prior to an 18 day trip to Sydney, South Africa and Perth for clinics and games.
Luke Parker is a bottom age TAC Cup player who played 3 games last season in the Stingrays TAC Cup team as an Under 16 player. Parker has been in outstanding form this year having played all 15 games where he has kicked 28 goals including a season high 7 vs Bendigo Pioneers and been named in the best 8 times. Parker has played as a small forward, mid fielder and wingman this year and has amassed over 20 possessions on 9 occasions this season, taken 82 marks and had 147 kicks and 153 handballs to average 20 possessions a game. Parker is originally from Langwarrin Junior Football Club and played his first senior game for Langwarrin this year to be named best on ground.
Adam Treloar has been offered a scholarship on the back of his performances in the Under 16 national carnival recently held in Sydney. Treloar plays as a HBF or Wingman at this level and acquitted himself very well in his two TAC Cup games he has played since returning from Sydney. Treloar is captain of his local Under 16 side at Noble Park.
Dylan Sheil also performed very well in the Under 16 Nationals as a small defender who ended up on ball. Sheil is from Edithvale-Aspendale where he plays mainly in the Under 18’s. Sheil is yet to play any TAC Cup games due to school football commitments at Caulfield Grammar where he was offered a scholarship to attend at the end of 2007.
