The Western Magpies are proud to announce the signing of Ed McDonnell for season 2010. The former St Kilda rookie and Norwood player was one of the Magpies shining lights in a winless season in the clubs first year back in Queenslands elite AFL competition. His signing is planned to be the first with the club very active in the search for 3 or 4 top end players to compliment McDonnell and provide the young Magpies the experience they lacked in 2009.
McDonnell had an excellent season in 2009 leading the Magpies defence which was often under seige with great courage and commitment which saw him finish 3rd in the club Best and Fairest voting and taking out awards for Most Consistent and Best Back.
Magpies Coach Paul Grentell said, " Ed provides fantastic leadership by example on and off the field and his preparation and training is second to none of any player in the competition. We are excited to have him on board for 2010 along with the return of injured co captains Mark Dowley and Chris Mihalopoulos the strengthened Magpies defence will be the basis for a much improved performance in 2010."
McDonnell said, "I am looking forward to continuing to play my part in helping to establish the Western Magpies as strong QAFL club and help to develop the group of young players we have coming through into a top team of the future".
