It’s on again the Blackfriars v Whitefriars preseason match up where we are playing for the pride of Victoria. No doubt Blackfriars will be very keen to try and rest back the trophy which we currently hold.
Blackfriars have again booked the Thebarton Oval where we played last year, picture below. This will be an important part of our pre-season and also the opportunity to play against a spirited opposition who will be keen to regain the trophy.
Two matches are scheduled for March 27th at 1pm and 3pm which is a bit earlier than last year. Accordingly travel plans will need to be made to arrive as early as possible in Adelaide or the night before.
The weekend away is a great opportunity for us as a club to play on a premier ground while having some great time together as a group to get to know each other, which will be a real key to our success in 2010. We want to take a squad of 50 players over so I need you to commit early for this opportunity. We would also welcome any family and friends who wanted to make the trip across. It was a huge success last year and a very enjoyable couple of days, except getting stuck next to Mitch on the way home!.
We have reviewed the various airlines websites and are pleased to tell you that currently Virgin are offering flights for $67.50 each way and Jetstar $59. This offer will not last forever so I would encourage you all to get on the computer and get your flights booked. I would like everyone to book flights that arrive in Adelaide no later than 11.00am (return date is your own choice) which will enable us all to get to our lodgings and out to the oval where lunch will be organised.
For those guys who wish to bring girlfriends, wives etc it is a great opportunity to spend a couple of days in Adelaide and make a really good weekend of it. We will be having a team dinner on the Saturday night hosted by Blackfriars at The Wellington Hotel in North Adelaide same as last year which I am sure will be another great night. Nathan set the standard last year and I would encourage you all to get the girls involved as it will be a great couple of days.
We need to get an idea about whether you guys want us to organize accommodation at the same place we did last year or whether you want to organize your own accommodation, please let me know so that we can get this done. My preference would be to have the majority of the group staying together but I am also happy for individuals, particularly if there are partners/family involved, to make their own arrangements.
Also there is a AFL game on the Sunday (Port Adelaide v North Melbourne) at AAMI stadium and if anyone is interested we can get tickets for the Sunday and watch that before returning.
Please ensure that you all respond to let me know your intent and if you book fares please let me know what time you will be arriving on the Saturday morning.
