With over 130 people in attendance, Dean Connors backed up his league Sanders Medal B&F for Division 2 by taking out MUAFC "Ivan Blythe" Best & Fairest honours. Deano came from behind after the mid way mark of the season to end up finishing on 36 votes, 7 votes clear from 2008 winner Justin Whyte trailing on 29 votes, closely followed by Carter Mullins on 28 votes.
In a night highlight, Captain Carter Mullins received the prestigious Scott "Butch" Uglow Players Player Award as voted on by his peers. In over 10 years playing for Mac Uni, Carter was stoked to win this award noting it is the first time he has won it and a highlight of his playing days with Macquarie University.
Young gun Brodie Cooper finished the season as Rookie of the Year taking out the John “Rookie” Benson Award. Available to players under the age of 20, this award is in honour of original Club “Rookie”, John Benson. Brodie, whilst having an injury interrupted year, peaked at the right time with a great last few home and away rounds and even better finals series. He has a great future ahead of him at the Warriors with sound skills and the ability to play tall or a tagging role as he did against Southern Power in our 2nd semi final. He should be one our top 5 players in 2010 and a potential future leader.
Club favourite, Timmy Lawson, took the honours in the highly prestigious Roger Sheeran - Club Person of the Year Award for services on and off the field. Timmy was instrumental in making match day operate. After having a serious injury in the practice matches that saw him miss the entire season, Timmy was often seen on Thursday nights cooking a BBQ and on game day from start to finish ensuring all match day operations were taken care of. Often, not the favoured job in a Club, all members were definite in Timmy being a worthy winner.
Alexander “Mighty” Lamond took out the Ron Aitken Most Improved Award. For his rise from Ressies leader in 2008 to integral member of the Seniors onball department in 2009.
Big ruckman, Patty “Claw” Sobb took out the Reserve Grade B&F, leading all the way on 38 votes, followed by on Darryn “Razzle” Avery on 32 votes.
2nd Division saw Gareth Smith take out B&F honours on 27 votes with Jules Beaman on 22 votes and Pierce Cooper on 21 votes. Also with Rowan “Stumpy” Pryor ending as clear Leading Goalkicker kicking 64 goals and thanking Lee and DK for not picking him in upper grades, however, noting he is a sure thing for Senior Full Forward in 2010.
New to the Club, Tim “Diesel” Morris took out the U18 B&F award with 36 votes, closely followed by Adam Brockway 33 votes and Mark Bishop on 29 votes.
In the first year of our Women’s side, the girls performed well with a highlight of the night being the video footage of the women taking on UNSW/ES. Congratulations to Kerry Taylor who has shelved retirement plans for 2010 to go for back to back awards, Players Player Kim Wolduis and Leading Goalkicker Alex Frolich.
