The Aspley Australian Football and Sporting Club is very excited to announce the appointment of Russell Harding as the State League Senior Coach for the 2010 season.
Russell’s appointment is a coup for the club and comes after an extensive search for a coach with the right attributes to make our club an ongoing force in State League.
In congratulating and welcoming Russell, club President Tony Tucker said: “As a fledgling State League Club, it was important not only that we found a person with enviable coaching skills, but someone who would imbue the club with the professionalism and discipline needed for success at State League level and drive the culture for the future. Russell’s experience and success both on and off the field clearly indicate that he is the person for the job”.
Russell has significant State League coaching experience, having co-coached the senior Mt Gravatt team over the last 4 years - a period in which that club played finals every year, played in two Grand Finals and won a premiership. Prior to that, Russell was involved in player development with the representative South Eastern Bushrangers teams.
Russell’s playing experience is impressive also and includes football at A Grade Senior VAFA level and time in the tough Ovens and Murray League in Victoria.
Off field, Russell is a devoted family man with partner Annie, daughter Emma and sons Scott (Lions midfielder) and Justin (former Mt Gravatt senior player and State/16 representative). He is also a successful self-made businessman owning his own chain of “Harding’s Pharmacies” as well as a Medical Centre and holding directorships with a number of companies. Russell has degrees in both Pharmacy and Human Movement Studies.
In accepting the position Russell acknowledged both the challenge and opportunities ahead: “I am proud and delighted to accept the Aspley State League senior coaching position. Aspley enjoys a tremendous reputation as a very successful Club. I very much look forward to being part of the Club and working to ensure that the Club’s successful reputation is now extended to our new State League teams. I acknowledge the unique co-senior coaching opportunity provided by my former Club Mt Gravatt and look forward to applying my abilities to the ongoing development of the Hornets”.
