Thanks go to Spackers, and we suspect daughter Evan, for putting together the vote slides; Lee-Ann Brooks and Tam Campbell for their gambling tree inspiration and interior design skills; Rowey in sartorial splendour for his best impression of a headmaster/MC; Ann Williams and staff for the finger food and service; Ted Sheehan and his bar staff for great service on the evening; Dan Lyons and Andrea Rolfe for their photography skills; Peter Harris for putting together the Season 2009 DVD; Bob Walters for getting all the trophies and a gazillion other details right for the night; Rolfey for his presiding role and not putting anybody away in his gangster outfit; Dave and Jan Emblem for providing the musical entertainment; supporters for attending and guess what, supporting; medical staff, trainers and water carriers who respect the club and join in these sorts of functions; committee members who put in behind the scenes; sponsors for ensuring that we have the readies and resources to field a team with special mention to the Campbells for their weekly inputs to the under 18s; and finally players for wanting to play for our club and providing us with viewing pleasure on a weekly basis.
Special thanks to the Stubbs and Kennan families.
And the coaches! Adrian, Chants, Bosto, Senior Sargeant Dicko, Dion, and Craig who guided the player list throughout the season, cast their votes under the tightest security available on the coast and painted word pictures of the worthy winners on the night. And of course the unsung heroes, the team managers: Tiny, Spackers, Wayne, GA and Brooksy.
It should be noted that the majority of the above are volunteers and those that do cop a bit make it stretch a looooooong way.
A photographic record, including our own red carpet WAGs, an be found on 'Caught in the Act'. From the menu select 'Vote count 2009'
Full vote counts are in the attachment below: select the worksheet of interest ie. Seniors, reserves, under 18s
Seniors
Somewhat like the AFL, the vote magnets were midfielders/attacking half back types with the first four across the line, Tinker, Fifey, Simmo and JD, often forming set rotations in games. Next up were Ben Walters who missed 5 games with injury and Ryan Clough who week in week out took on ‘run with’ roles but clearly found a lot of ball himself.
Tinker was able to reverse the Syd Guildford results and won from Fifey in a close fought race on 32 votes with Fifey on 27. Both scored votes in 13 games with Tink attracting 7 maximums to Fifey’s five. Both performances are amazing stats and they are deserving recipients for season 2009. Gratifying from a club perspective was (i) Fifey and Simmo (thanks Bob) were 2009 recruits, and (ii) Cookey, Liam and Cloughy all made that next step.
Many thanks to Tinker who ensured we don’t have to organize a fresh sign for the bar in 2010.

Wrap Up
Common wisdom for the evening was we have something special at Broadbeach. Ben Tindall probably touched on it when he mentioned “…much has changed and yet nothing has changed…” over his journey at the footy club.
While football clubs and sporting organizations exist for all sorts of reasons; Smithy, Fults, Cloughy, Hales et al, stressed that the club can become something more than a junior club inspired community-family team for which good players and great blokes play. Smithy was particularly candid in his self-directed comments on potential improvements and finals participation. Something we would all – the Management Committee, players, coaches, support staff etc. – do well to ponder.
We will update our player list as the trade season progresses, and no, we will not be chasing Fevalenko!
