Another windy day at the Snake Pit and a massive Friar contingent saw our Reserves go under narrowly to NOBSP in the Grand Final. In a very tight game where the rub of green would be decisive proved to be the case with everything going against our lads in the final stanza as they tried to hold out the opposition who had final use of the breeze. The boys though tried valiantly and were a credit to the club as they handled the disappointment of going under in such a tight game with great sportsmanship and dignity.
We congratulate NOBSP on their victory and also Rupertswood who proved their form all year to win the senior premiership.
The Friars though had a great victory in the individual honours stake with
Brendan Stafford taking out the Best and Fairest Award for the grade. Brendan polled in an amazing 10 out of 18 games and scored 23 votes to take the award over Werribee’s Andrew Taylor (20) and Brad Norton (15) from Old Mentone. Great effort Brendan and congratulations from everyone at the club.
Other Friars to come under the eye of the umpires were
Nathan Cunningham (12) and
Ben Janson (10). Both Brendan and Nathan were also named in the “Team of the Year” for the D1 section. Our highest rated players in the Under 19s were
Daniel Massaroti and
Joe Urbano equal 10th with 9 votes. In addition to this Joe, Daniel Di Bartolomeo and Daniel Tibaldi were named in the Team of the Year for their grade in the Under 19s. This is all in addition to
Matt Shanks who shared the prize for the 3rds in the Club XVIII (North) competition, the highest rated player for the Clubbies was
Ben Piggott finishing 9th with 10 votes.
