Women

Razzle are back on track ending a three game losing streak and stopping the run of the Warriors at the same time with a 65-47 victory. Keisha Tinley was outstanding for Razzle scoring 19 points and delivery on some nice passes. Kate McMeeken-Ruscoe (17 points) and Chelsea Cook (11 points) also contributed strongly on the offensive end. The Warriors who were unstoppable offensively last week found things a little tougher this week and Tara Carroll was restricted to 14 points while Peta Bailey who scored 30 last week was held to just 11.

Despite a brave defensive effort from the TV Jets the Uni Rebels scrapped a 35-29 win and have held the top spoton the ladder. TV Jets, Shannyn Ah Sam led all scorers in the game with 11 points but unfortunately for the TV Jets they just couldn’t score enough for the win and are no doubt looking forward to the addition of Victorian SEABL recruit Jess Eason for the rest of the season and she will line up next Tuesday against the Warriors. The Uni Rebels unusually struggled offensively with no player breaking double digits and desley Ah Wang leading the way with 8 points, but their strong defense and tenacious play was enough to get them the win.

The Lightning women have sent out a big warning to the rest of the competition with a massive 91-45 win over Ansett. Lightning have now won 4 in a row and have won those four games by a combined total of 155 points. Claire O’Bryan was mentally in a zone and scored 35 points to go along with some great defensive plays. Taylor Silas also chipped in strongly with 24 points including six 3 pointers. For Ansett who were without Emily McInerny they couldn’t contain the hot Lightning offense. Sam Drescher had a quiet game after exploding last week and finished with just 15 points while Kate Hoschke fought hard with 14 points. Ansett will now focus on a pivotal game against Razzle while Lightning will face the Eagles.

Ladder:    Uni Rebels 7-2, Lightning 6-2, Razzle 5-3, Ansett 5-4, Eagles 4-4, Warriors 3-6, Tracy Village Jets 0-9

Tuesday:    6.15pm – Ansett v Razzle, 7.45pm –Eagles v Lightning & 9.15pm Warriors v TV Jets, Uni rebels have the bye

Men

The Uni Rebels came out winners in the top of the table clash with the TV Jets 81-68 despite a 2-14 start to the game. Nick Freer again led all scorers with 32 points and received some strong support from the Rebels newest recruit Josh Cohen (Newcastle ABA Player) who scored 17 points including some clutch drives to the lay-up. Reports indicate that Josh will now return to Newcastle before coming back to Darwin in four weeks time for the rest of the season. For the Jets Travis Ellis was kept in check with just 13 points and while the scoring was spread evenly amongst seven players (7~13 points each) the Jets couldn’t find a hot hand down the stretch. Next week the Jets will face another big game against the Warriors (the only other team who have beaten them this season) while the Rebels will have the week off.

Lighning have returned to winning form after a week off with a solid 64-50 win over a determined Ansett team. Dylan De Santis led the way for Lightning on the scoresheet with 16 points and Cameron Bailey was tough inside with 15 points. Ansett who again worked hard on defense were unable to find a consistant scorer with Aaron Smith top scorer with 12 points after hitting three 3 pointers in the fourth quarter. Ansett will now look to get back on track next week against the bottom placed Razzle team while Lightning will face a rejuvenated Eagles line-up.

The Warriors have cruised to an 81-49 victory over the bottom placed Razzle men despite being pushed in the first quarter, 18-18. Bayi Handy lit the scoreboard up all night finishing with 30 and Leon Purdue gave strong support with 13. The Warriors put the foot down in the third on both the defense and offense end to run away with the game and take the quarter 25-9. Eric Klenke was the top scorer for Razzle with 12 points.
