In a full house at the Wynnum RSL on Monday night, August 31, Tim Plummer took out the 2009 Col Tobiasen medal ahead of Chris Cuthbert from Alex Hills with last year's winner Willie Broome from Wynnum tying for third with Ben Eden from Coorparoo Kings and Luke Faulkner from Alex Hills. The first half of the season saw Tim jump out to an early lead, and despite missing a game late in the season with university committments he held on for a 5 vote win after polling 19 votes.
It was a big year for Tim, whom alongside his brother Simon who both came back from a couple of years down south playing. The return to their junior club was a good shot in the arm for Kenmore, who as a club have battled hard since the promotion to Division 1 in 2007. The Plummer brothers provided key position players and great leadership and we look forward to their playing involvement in the coming years.
In the Reserves, Scott Matthews, the 2009 Captain and a stalwart at Kenmore polled 8 votes to finish 5th. This is an outstanding effort leading a team that had a tough season with not many wins. During 2009, 'Hotty' played his 200th game for Kenmore and in a big decision has announced his retirement from the club after many years service. Congratulations Hotty and see ya around the place on game days (and possibly training when you get itchy feet).
