The Western Magpies AFC is proud to announce the reappointment of Senior Coach Paul Grentell to coach the Tradelink Western Magpies in its second season as QAFL club in 2010. Following a review process over the past few weeks Grentell was successful in demostrating to the Western Magpies that he had learnt a tremendous amount about himself and his players through a very tough 2009 season. The Western Magpies AFC are inviting applications from people interested in filling voluntary Assistant Coching, U/18 Head Coach and match day support roles at the club for the 2010 season. Expressions if interest can be made to Club Development Manager Anthony McDonald on 0407718303 or amcdonald@aflq.com.au
Grentell is delighted at the opportunity to continue his work at the Western Magpies despite a winless 2009 season which had plenty of upside going forward with a competitive home ground record and a very competitive end to the season with the team winning only 4 quarters of football in its first 12 games but winning 11 quarters in its last 6 games.
Grentell said," I am very excited at the opportunity we have going forward into 2010 on the back of our improved end to the season we have blooded many exciting youngsters such as Zaine Pringle,Jack Parkes, Nick Ielasi, Jackson Allen, Matt Mitchell, Chris McClennan and Chris Hunt and many of our early 20's Pineapple Cup Premiership players such as Val Pope, Ben Jaenke-Cain, Ben Heffernan-Roper, Chris Judson, Richard Wenham, Greg Friis, Scott Clarke and Drew Mitchell have all proven they can play at QAFL level and now have a season under their belt."
"Our players in their early to mid 20's such as Ed McDonnell, Luke Scott, Tim McEvoy and David Hamill who all performed well and developed strongly with leadership roles thrust upon them with Chris Mihalopoulos and Mark Dowley missing the season who are expected to return in 2010 along with hard nut James Rozynski who missed the season with work commitments."
"We will be working very hard to secure 2 or 3 top end mature footballers to strengthen the group and we will have many more youngsters entering the group from our gallant U/18 team that just fell short of a Premiership and we think we will be very competitive in 2010."
Western Magpies Club Development Manager Anthony Mcdonald said, "The way that Paul managed to hold this group together in the face of such adversity this year has been outstanding and the marked improvement over the season is a testiment to his ability to be a successful coach at this level given the improvement of the list which we are working very hard at ensuring for 2010."
