Will Whitty will play his 250th game on Saturday April 9th against Tant. The veteran mozzie started his football career at Mt Burr in 2000 and he was fortunate to play in a premiership in his first year at the club. He went on to play in the 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2015 premierships. Will rates the 2000 and 2011 flags as his highlights because it was his first flag and to go through the year undefeated as they did in 2011 he believes is a great achievement.
When Will came to Mt Burr he played as a forward and in the ruck before settling in the backline where he has helped and guided many young players as they find their feet in senior footy.
Coaches who have influenced him have been Adam Wiese, who helped with his development , and Mark Kruger who he believes modernized the game plan for Mt Burr and really understood the game. Will believes Scott Bevan is the best country footballer he has seen in his time with great skills and athleticism.
Off the field Will has been a great sponsor of the club for many years and has provided job opportunities for a number of players over the years. He believes the clubs winning culture and the supporters are their great strength, it doesn’t matter if you played 1 game or 250 games you are welcomed to the club the same.
Congratulations Will Whitty on the outstanding achievement of 250 games.
