Jets' Ryan Strain in Young Socceroos Camp
Returned Modbury Jets player Ryan Strain has been selected in a 22 man squad for the upcoming Young Socceroos training camp to be held in Sydney.
The camp from Saturday the 15th to Wednesday the 19th of August is a first for the 18 year old and Modbury Jets Head Coach Jason Trimboli is fully supportive of Ryan’s abilities.
“Since coming back to Modbury Jets, Ryan has added an injection of speed and calmness when on the ball. He is always looking to go forward and utilise space that is left by other players.
“He is a joy to coach and has fit in very well with all players within the squad. This is an amazing opportunity for Ryan.”
Strain, a Modbury Jets Junior, played for the Aston Villa Academy since 2012 but has recently relocated back to Australia with his family.
Sporting talent runs strong in the family, grandfather Jerry Baker and brother Joe are famous footballers playing in the 1950’s and 1960’s in England and Scotland. The pair representing the likes of the United States national team, England and clubs Arsenal, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest, Torino and Hibernian. Ryan’s mother Lorraine also competed in the 800m final at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
Having only returned to the PlayStation 4 National Premier League South Australia within the past 7 games, Ryan noted that he was surprised but thrilled for the call up to the Young Socceroos camp.
“I am delighted; looking forward to putting the strip on, the green and gold.
“I was a bit shocked because I haven’t been playing first tier football back at Modbury that long, but hopefully I can prove myself when I go over there to Sydney.”
Ryan is the only player in a South Australian club outside of Adelaide United to be selected for the camp with Daniel Margush and George Mells also picked up.
“Hopefully I get selected for the final squad and can play for Australia, prove myself and one day play in the first team.”
