SA 6.1 (37) def AFL Vic Dev 3.2 (20)
AFL Victoria Development and South Australia met on a day perfect for footy – light breeze, sunshine and lush oval.
If anyone had never seen a youth girls AFL game before then they should ask to see a replay of the first quarter of this game. The first term had everything: passion, hard at the ball, spirit, courage, clean hands accurate kicks, bone jarring bumps, ferocious tackles – the only thing missing was a goal!
AFL Vic Dev forced the ball forward early in the second term through some good passing by foot and soon had two goals on the board.
The rest of the quarter was all SA’s with Batley, Leceister and Price working hard to help put three goals on the SA scorecard.
Tessari (AFL Vic) took numerous contested marks to keep her team in attack. Eventually AFL Vic were able to get some handball receives going and banged on the only goal in the quarter.
The final term produced some outstanding passages of play from both sides but it was Leceister (SA) who kept her feet in the torrid contests to add two goals. Her efforts were followed up with a goal from a 50m penalty to put the final result beyond doubt.
