Team WA 14.7 (91) def Qld 3.2 (20)
With strong crowd support, Queensland were unable to overcome a skillful WA outfit in day two of play at the Youth Girls National Championships.
The scoreline did not do justice to the closeness of the contest with Team WA really only getting away in the final term.
The second quarter provided the best football of the Championships so far with both sides getting into a fast-paced and clean-hands rhythm. There were some brutal clashes of bodies that left the crowd gasping. Sometimes they were through 'friendly fire'!
By the final term, Team WA found space through hard running and displayed better use of the ball.
A courageous final term goal by Gibson (WA) who ran into space to gather the ball and skidded it through for full points while being smashed by a superbly executed hip and shoulder set up a cavalcade of goals.
Queensland responded quickly forcing the ball down into their forward 50 and under enormous pressure soccered through a quick reply.
However WA finished off with several players getting into the goal kicking action.
Schmidt kicked a raking punt from 50 out followed in quick succession by a snap from Haynes, Miller and Phillips to put the result beyond doubt.
Hosts Queensland will face a hapless NSWACT who have been ravaged by injury in game one.
