Vic 11.14 (80) def AFL Vic Dev 0.1 (1)
Victoria State started their campaign for back-to-back champs wins with a convincing first up victory against their Development team in very hot conditions at Southport FC on the Gold Coast.
It was hard to believe they were from the same state as the first five minutes saw a solid struggle in the midfield as players ferociously tackled each other with no love lost.
Eventually Vic State forced the ball to their full forward Rebecca Privitelli who scored the first goal of the championships from a set shot 35m out.
Shannon Egan (V) dominated the second-quarter ruck taps allowing her midfielders to cleanly take the ball from stoppages.
But Vic Development were equal to the task and didn’t allow the Vics to get into their free flowing style of play until the third quarter.
At that time Wilson and Paterno in particular moved the ball fluently to bang on 2 goals 7 points.
The wayward kicking for goal would have seen the Vics win with an even bigger margin
