Vietnam Swans & Bali Geckos raise over $4,300 dollars for YVMDFL Bushfire Fund.
CEO of the YVMDFL Stephen Walter is pleased to report that support for the YVMDFL Bush Fire Fund has received world wide interest, and in particular, tremendous support that has been received from the Vietnam Swans and Bali Geckos, two Aussie Rules clubs based overseas.
Both clubs were keen to support the sporting communities that have been so affected by the bush fires and as a consequence, staged a charity match in Saigon, Vietnam on March 28.
Mr Phil Johns, National President of the Vietnam Swans said the actual match was played in great spirit which was befitting of the occasion. Bali were definitely better and deserved the win.
The match was a great success. The Friday night function probably had 80 - 100 people. At the Saturday match, we had the President of RMIT officially welcome us. Then there was a minute's silence for the victims of the bushfires and for at least 70 Indonesians who drowned that morning when a dam wall burst.
We then invited the Indonesian Consul General to present the trophy in respect of the support that Indonesia had given Australia during the bushfire emergency.
Then there were a couple of drinks at the ground, followed by dinner and a few more drinks later that evening. It was a great weekend that had a lot of feeling for a lot of people and everyone was very pleased to have done something for the YVMDFL.
YVMDFL President Mr Graeme Tuplin said "I congratulate the Vietnam Swans & Bali Geckos for, firstly, taking the time to do something to help all the way from Vietnam, and secondly, your enthusiasm and professionalism in promoting your charity game has been outstanding. I personally loved getting your photos which showed the emblem of the Yarra Valley throughout which is truly first rate, and I can't thank everyone who was involved enough. The funds you have raised will be directed straight to clubs & members who have been badly affected and in most need. If any of the Bali Gecko or Vietnam Swans are in town, please give me a call as I would love to catch up, and possibly we could catch a Kinglake or Thornton Eildon game. One again, thanks. Your efforts have been well recognised throughout the YVMDFL community."
Mr Walter says The Bali Geckos & Vietnam Swans are outstanding ambassadors for Aussie Rules and for supporting great causes. Their efforts in staging the game & raising the funds are exemplary.
Congratulations to Phil Johns, Vietnam Swans & Sam Gosling, Bali Geckos for their dedication & efforts.
