Firstly we wish to invite all of our current and aspiring coaches along to the upcoming Liam Flynn Coaching Workshop. This is a significant day and workshop as it is the start of our journey into the 2016-17 seasons and sets up the future for our Junior programs for the years to come. We have already been discussing our development pathway with Liam for the entire club and how this flows from one age group to the next, to smooth and simplify the transition process and ensure continuity of development. More specifically we’ve identified the ‘style of play’ we will be striving for in each age group at the Warriors both defensively and offensively and how we can implement this across the club. This is a very positive step toward providing our Coaches with the structure and direction they need to then provide the best development pathway for all of our members both in the short and long term.

The workshop will be the first step in implementing our new Warrior Curriculum which will assist players, coaches and also parents to understand the learning and path of development at the Warriors.  The day consists of 2 sessions of 2.5 hours with the first relating to u10/u12/u14’s, the second u16’s and u18’s, which we will need a team from one of these to help run through a series of drills/concepts to assist Liam to share the curriculum and knowledge with all of our coaches.

This is going to be a great learning opportunity and step in the right direction for the Warriors and we are very excited about it!

We would also like to emphasize that we as a Basketball Club are striving to develop as many elite basketball players as we can, and would love to see all our teams win games and experience success, but we know we can’t win ALL the time, and realise to do be successful we need think about MORE than just winning. To achieve this we will focus on the development strategies, training we provide, and how we deliver our service. We would also like to particularly focus on many other types of success that we see so regularly in basketball and team sport. These successes are seen in the building of specific skills, ability, characteristics and qualities that we want to see in every one of our Warrior players, and we believe will have a lasting effect and help kids throughout the rest of their lives, such as: resilience, mental toughness, teamwork, learning how to lose, confidence in others and self, being coachable, committed, hard-working, sharing, dedication, being humble in victory and defeat, how to be fit and healthy, how to communicate, build friendship(s), enjoyment/fun, encourage others and self, and many more.

From a basketball perspective, we want all our players to be fit and healthy, have great fundamental basketball skills, a never give up attitude, enjoy their training and games, and exhibit the behaviours of a good sports person!!
