NORTH WEST GRAND FINAL: La Trobe Uni v Bendigo Thunder

The 2012 North West Grand Final this Sunday 19 August promises to be a great clash with the best two teams in 2012, Bendigo Thunder & La Trobe University to go head to head at Coburg City Oval.

NORTH WEST DIVISION GRAND FINAL - La Trobe Uni v Bendigo Thunder

12 pm, Sunday 19 August 2012

Coburg City Oval

$10 entry, children U 15 free.

No dogs permitted please.....

The teams have played each other three times in 2012 for one draw and one win apiece. The teams drew in an epic game in Rd 3 at Bendigo when Bendigo fought back from a 13 pt deficit at ¾ time, the Trobers had more scoring shots but the Thunder got the points with a 12 point win in Rd 13 and the Trobers recorded a comprehensive 27 pt win over the Thunder in their semi final clash on Sunday 5 August.

The scene is set for an epic encounter. The Trobers are the reigning premiers having won the 2011 flag in an amazing effort after finishing 4th at the end of the 2011 home & away season. The Trobers defeated the Thunder in the 2011 Preliminary Final and went on to kick 8 goals straight in the Grand Final against North Ballarat including 6 goals after ½ time as they stormed home to claim the flag.

Players to watch out for include super boot Samantha Greene from La Trobe Uni the leading goal kicker in the North West Division in 2012 having kicked 48 goals to date. Sam kicked 4 goals to be the key forward in the 2011 Grand Final. Emma Wolters from the Thunder is another to watch having booted 41 goals in 2012.

The Thunder had the first week of the finals off after finishing in top of the ladder and seemed shocked by La Trobe in the Semi Final. The Trobers kicked 3.3 in the first quarter and took a 21 pt lead into the first break, running out 27 pt winners. The Trobers had last week off while Bendigo had a hard fought win over North Ballarat, both teams should be primed for what promises to be a classic Grand Final encounter.

The winner? I think it could go either way.
