Back to back for Darebin

Darebin Falcons have completed back to back premiership wins with a 30-point victory over Diamond Creek.

The Falcons finished the season with a clean sweep of all game, undefeated throughout the 2014 season to claim the Cottons VWFL Premier Division title 10.15 75 to 6.9 45.

Darebin started the game every bit like a side get to suffer a defeat, as they held Diamond Creek scoreless in the first term as they jumped out to a 22-point quarter time lead. Katie Brennan kicked two for the term and Jane Lange one as it began to look like the premiership was a done deal.

But Diamond Creek fought back in the second term, lifting their intensity as they started to take the game on to close within nine points midway through the quarter. Brittany Grech started to crash the packs up forward, opening the door for Kirsty Lamb to kick the first for Diamond Creek, and this was quickly followed up by the underdogs’ second. Lange settled things down for the Falcons with her second goal, but a determined effort by Steph Chiocci produced the third goal for the term for Diamond Creek and they trailed at half time by eight points.

After half time Darebin started to stamp their authority on the game, limiting the Creekers scoring chances while at the same time peppering the goals themselves. Daisy Pearce – named best on ground in the Grand Final - was working well out of the middle, and Darcy Vescio moved forward kicking two of her sides’ three goals for the quarter to help them to a 29-point three quarter time lead.

Darebin put the icing on the cake in the final term, with Brennan kicking her fourth and helping the Falcons to a 30-point win.
